New Faculty Group To Focus on Large-Room Teaching

March 13, 2025

The UTD Center for Teaching and Learning is creating a faculty group with a focus on preparing to teach in the new 400-seat arena-style classroom in the new Student Union & Student Success Center.

The first meeting of the group will be Monday, March 31 from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Teaching Large Classes Faculty Learning Community is intended to help instructors develop new strategies for teaching large classes.

The community will identify challenges, opportunities, and new approaches to teaching in the new space, including improv techniques, fishbowl strategies, active lecturing and active learning, and classroom management.

The group will meet three times in spring 2025 and continue for as long as members wish to remain involved. Early meetings will be used to identify faculty needs and interests, which will be used to create a plan for future meetings.

Benefits of participating in the learning community include:

  • Networking opportunities with innovative peers.
  • The sharing of research on what works in teaching large classes.
  • Developing space-appropriate, evidence-informed practices.
  • The availability of practice teaching sessions.
  • Piloting student feedback surveys.

Future meeting dates will be determined after the initial meeting, which will be held at the  CTL Workspace (MC 2.404).

RSVP by Friday, March 21.

The community is open only to UTD faculty.
