UT Dallas Appoints Dr. Julie Nuter as Chief Human Resources Officer
December 2, 2024
Dr. Julie Nuter, a veteran human resources leader, has been selected as the next chief human resources officer at UT Dallas.
She will assume her new role Jan. 6, 2025.
“Julie’s experience and success as an HR leader make her unquestionably qualified to take on the role of chief human resources officer at UT Dallas,” said Rafael Martín PhD’20, vice president and chief of staff. “However, what set her apart from a strong field of finalists for this role was her ability to connect with not only the HR team but campus constituents from all levels of our organization.”
UTD’s chief human resources officer is a member of the president’s executive leadership team and is charged with the recruitment and retention of approximately 4,000 UTD employees, formulating and recommending strategic HR policies that support the University’s values and mission, working with leaders across campus to manage talent and culture, and leading the 38-member HR team.
Nuter, who most recently was the chief human resources officer at the University of Chicago’s Argonne National Laboratory, a federally funded research and development center in Illinois, attributed her excitement about working at UTD to the education and research mission and the campus conversations she had as a finalist.
“Everybody truly was an ambassador for UT Dallas,” she said. “To me, that really showed a high degree of commitment and pride in UT Dallas’ past, present and future. It’s the people and the culture they create that makes a difference, and that came through.”
Before working at Argonne, Nuter led HR at Iowa State University and DePaul University during times of change including unprecedented enrollment and research growth. She also worked in the arts at the Illinois Arts Council and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and said she is pleased to see the thoughtful combination of art and science at UT Dallas.
“There was no doubt that joining UT Dallas, with its creative and enterprising spirit, was right for me.” She adds, “I’m eager to partner with faculty, staff, students and leaders. Together we can build on current strengths, champion a rewarding and supportive campus and grow as an employer of choice.”
Nuter will replace Colleen Dutton, who is retiring in December. Dutton has led the Office of Human Resources at UT Dallas for 12 years.
“I am confident that Julie is the right person to succeed Colleen, and I look forward to her contributions as a leader on our campus,” Martín said.
